Hyderabad: Gold worth Rs 1 crore seized from four women at RGI Airport

Hyderabad: Customs officials at RGI Airport seized 2.5kg smuggled gold worth Rs 1 crore from four women passengers who arrived from Jeddah on Sunday.
At the customs check area in RGI Airport, officials screening passengers who arrived from Jeddah in Air India flight (AI 966) intercepted the women after they noticed suspicious objects in their undergarments.
“The four women had concealed gold in their undergarments. While some were carrying broken gold biscuits, others were carrying gold chains and bangles. The seized gold is of 24 karat purity,” said a customs official.
The four women are not related to each other. “Two of them went to Saudi Arabia on Umrah pilgrimage and the other two had gone there on personal visits. None of them has history of frequent visits to Saudi Arabia or Dubai,” said a customs official.
