Malappuram: The social impact study for the land acquisition for the development of parking area of Karippur International airport will begin soon in view of the protest against the land acquisition from the part of land owners.
A Kottayam based private organization is expected to submit the social impact study report within one month.
The authorities are planning to acquire a total of 15.5 acres in the premise of entry gate of the airport to set up ample parking areas. Authorities will acquire land with a width of 100m and length of 700m. The state transport department will hand over the acquired land to Airport Authority of India (AAI) for further development works.
But the local-level protest against the land acquisition process is still continuing. A group of land owners had staged blockade in front of the Kondotty village office in protest against the move to acquire the land. In view of protest, district collector is likely to convene a meeting in the coming days to discuss the issue with local protest.
