Turbulence on ground over greenfield airport project

Jaipur: Improper planning of the greenfield airport project by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has left many farmers near Shivdaspura area in the lurch.
Nearly two years ago, JDA had planned to acquire 2,094 hectares in 20 villages for the airport. Following the announcement, JDA had imposed a ban on land conversion and issuing of lease deeds in Shivdaspura. This has inconvenienced thousands of land owners who are not able to utilise their own land.

Former zila parishad member Ashok Mehta said, “The project is far from reality as there is no formal permission from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The owners of the land in these villages cannot utilise their own land for other purposes.”

Farmers said in the city’s master plan 2025, these villages have been earmarked as a special area. The land use of these villages will be decided on the directions of the state government.

Ajay Singh, a land owner said, “After the change in regime, we submitted a memorandum to CM Ashok Gehlot but nothing has been done till date. For the past many years, the district lease committee (DLC) rates of the area have not increased. Farmers alleged that in Lok Sabha, civil aviation minister had replied that no airport was proposed in Shivdaspura. Still, the land was kept reserved.”
