2 international services from Cial cancelled

Kochi: Two international flight services from the Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) have been cancelled till the second week of March, reportedly in the wake of the fast-spreading Covid-19. Kochi-Jeddah (Saudi Airlines) and Kochi-Kuala Lumpur (Malindo Air) are the services that stand cancelled till March 14. Though both the airlines have denied that the cancellation is on account of the coronavirus outbreak, they have not announced any other reason.

SV 784 Saudi Airlines flight to Jeddah will not be operational on March 4,8,9,10 and 13. Similarly, OD 237 Malindo Air flight stands cancelled on March 2,4,9,10 and 14.

Cial authorities also said that Covid-19 cannot be cited as the reason for cancellation as many other airlines are still operating their services to the said regions. "AirAsia, Air India, and Indigo are carrying out their services from Kochi to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Though coronavirus alert is high in these regions, airlines have not cited it as a reason for cancellation," said a Cial official.

Airport authorities have strengthened the primary health screening of passengers coming from foreign countries as Covid-19 is fast spreading across the world. Cial is planning to open more health screening counters and to deploy additional doctors and medical staffs if needed. Currently, suspected passengers are directly shifted from the airport to isolation wards set up in various hospitals.
