5.35kg of gold seized from air passengers

Kochi: Directorate of revenue intelligence on Tuesday seized 5.35kg of gold with a market value of Rs 2.31 crore at Cochin International Airport Ltd in three different cases.
DRI officials said 2.5kg of gold valued at Rs 1.10 crore was seized from a husband and wife who arrived from Bangkok in an AirAsia flight. The gold in compound (paste) form was found concealed in undergarments worn by the passengers.

In another incident, officials seized 1.75kg of gold valued Rs 75.5 lakh from two passengers in separate flights. While one passenger arrived from Abu Dhabi in an Air India Express flight, the other passenger arrived from Dubai in a Spice-Jet flight. Both the passengers had concealed gold in compound (paste) form in the rectum. While the Dubai passenger had brought in 550g, the passenger from Abu Dhabi had 1,200g.
In another incident, DRI officials seized 1,050g of gold chain in crude form valued at Rs 45.5 lakh from a SpiceJet flight from Dubai. The gold was concealed in the side toilet of the aircraft. All passengers are natives of Malappuram, officials said. Investigation is under progress.
