District collector directs AAI to strengthen screening at airport

Thiruvananthapuram: District collector K Gopalakrishnan on Tuesday directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to strengthen the screening facility for passengers at the Trivandrum International Airport in view of the increasing threat of Covid-19. A meeting held at the airport and chaired by the collector reviewed preparedness to deal with the crisis.
The airport has a medical team, which functions round-the-clock, at both domestic and international terminals, working in three shifts.

“The directives from civil aviation department should be followed strictly. It is noticed that some international travellers refuse to give samples. In such cases, sample can be collected forcefully,” said Gopalakrishnan.

The collector also gave directions to install instruction boards at airport, railway stations and bus stands regarding Covid-19.

AAI has advised all international airports to enhance universal screening of all arriving passengers and to provide more number of counters and equipment to reduce queues and waiting time last week.
