Drastic makeover of Dimapur Airport underway

Dimapur: Dimapur Airport is set to undergo a major facelift which will be completed in phases under the Airport Authority of India (AAI); some new facilities are already in use and functioning at present, according to the director of Dimapur Airport, Mughavi Zhimo.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror while giving a tour of the various ongoing works at the airport on Monday, Zhimo said that almost every corner of the airport would get a makeover.

One major change is converting the airport into a friendlier zone for the differently-able.

From having special reserved spaces at the baggage claim belt to waiting seats at check in, the airport has also placed tactile pavements, which will assist passengers that are visually impaired.

Another addition, Zhimo shared, is the new central air conditioning system, which has been introduced for the first time in Nagaland.

“The arrival section has a functioning central air conditioning system where temperature can be controlled,” said Zhimo.

Further, the director informed that minor changes, ‘that would make huge differences’, have been made as well.

“A new public announcement system, replacement of passenger chairs and a new retiring room has been renovated,” informed Zhimo adding that even a new biometric system for employees has been installed.

Since the number of flights out of Dimapur has increased, the number of check in counters have also increased from four to seven, he informed.

According to Zhimo, the total cost of civil and electrical works (ongoing as well as those completed) is approximately INR 62 crore.
