Land records set to delay Ludhiana airport

Aittiana (Raikot): With several discrepancies surfacing in revenue records, the land acquisition process for Halwara airport (civil terminal) project is likely to see further delay.

Officials said the task entrusted with Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) is likely to be delayed by more than a month. The delay is also due to standing wheat crop on the said land.

On February 7, Bhupinder Singh, land acquisition collector (LAC), Glada, had announced awards for land owners/affected persons, saying that 161.2703 acres at Aitiana village would be acquired for construction of international civil terminal at Halwara airport.

Though 200 farmers are supposed to get compensation for their land coming under the project, the farmers have submitted before the authorities a list of more than 20 land owners who have “discrepancies” in land records.

Sohan Singh, a land owner who has met the senior authorities for hike in land compensation, said at least 20-25 persons whose names are there in revenue records have died. They have given the updated list to the authorities for correction of the names of land owners, but nothing has been done so far.
