Air India to operate special charters to London to fly out foreigners stranded in India

New Delhi: Air India will.operate special evacuation flights to London from Delhi and Mumbai to fly out foreigners stranded in India. The airline, which is yet to pay flying allowance to pilots of January that comprises almost 70% of crew pay, has operated similar flights to Germany and Israel.
The flights to London Heathrow will operate on four days from Saturday to next next Tuesday. While Delhi-London will operate in these four days, Mumbai-London will be on two days (April 5 and 7). AI will deploy its Boeing 777. These aircraft will return as ferry flights -- without any passengers -- on way back to India.
AI is operating nine charters to Germany to fly out foreigners from India.
US is also going to operate flights to fly out its citizens from India.
Other countries are also keen to operate special flights to take their citizens from India. Canada, for instance, wanted to fly out its citizens from India. But for, AI can operate only quick turnaround flights on which the entire operating crew gets back home on the return flight. Sources say Canada was informed the possibility of flying its citizens from India to somewhere in Europe, from where it makes arrangements to fly them home, can be discussed.
