Bengaluru: Of the 64 flights planned by the government for evacuation of Indians stranded in foreign countries, three will land in Bengaluru - one each from the UK, Singapore and the US on May 8, 12 and 13, respectively.
The first evacuation flight to land at Kempegowda International Airport will be AI 1178 from Heathrow airport at 11:50 pm on May 8. 250 passengers are expected to board this flight. Passengers will then be able to travel onward to New Delhi on AI 1804 which will depart from Bengaluru airport at 1:15 am and arrive in Delhi at 4 am on May 9.
Indians stranded in Singapore will be evacuated in flight AI 1376 leaving Bengaluru at 9 am on May 12 and reaching the island nation at 4:15 pm. On the way back, AI 1377 will leave the Singapore airport at 5:45 pm and arrive in Bengaluru at 7:45 pm.
AI 0173 will depart from Delhi airport at 3:30 am on May 10 and arrive in San Francisco at 7 am. On its return flight, AI 1174 will depart San Francisco at 11 pm on May 11 and arrive in New Delhi at 4:15 am. On May 13, passengers wanting to travel to Bengaluru will be ferried on AI 1174. It will take off from Delhi at 6:15 am and arrive in Bengaluru at 9 am.
According to the government of Karnataka, 10,823 residents of the state, including tourists and visitors (4,408), students (1,660), migrants and professionals (1,503) and ship crew (557) are stranded abroad, as on April 30. All passengers will be made to undergo thermal screening and pulse oximeter check on arrival at KIA. The back of palms of Category C passengers (asymptomatic) will be stamped with the date of the 14-day quarantine period, while symptomatic individuals (Category A) will be taken to hospitals and the asymptomatic with co-morbidities (Category B) will be taken to a quarantine facility.
KIA has been asked to provide adequate number of counters for screening and medical teams from the Health and Family Welfare department will be posted at the airport as per flight schedule. Counters for providing local SIM cards, selling N95, triple layer surgical, handmade masks and hand sanitisers and refreshment counters have been asked to be set up at KIA.
