Air India to bring stranded people from Chicago, Kuala Lumpur to Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A direct Air India flight from America’s Chicago city and another from Malaysia capital Kuala Lumpur will bring stranded Odias to Biju Patnaik International Airport here.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena confirmed about the two flights apart from the one from Dubai, which will arrive here on Thursday night. The flight from Kuala Lumpur will arrive here on May 20, the one from Chicago will land on May 28.
“We have received the schedules of Chicago and Kuala Lumpur flights. The Air India has changed the timing of arrival of its Dubai flight. It was to arrive here in the afternoon but now it will arrive at night,” an airport officer said.
The Chicago flight will come en route Delhi and the passenger will deboard the Chicago-Delhi plane to get into Delhi-Bhubaneswar flight.
Most of the stranded people coming from Dubai are plumbers and construction workers of Kendrapada and Ganjam districts. A handful of them are from Bhubaneswar and two more districts.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury said those belonging to capital city will be advised home quarantine. “After reaching Bhubaneswar, separate buses will take the returnees of other districts barring the city-bound people. The respective district administration will take a call on the returnees’ quarantine,” Chaudhury told TOI. He said they are yet to plan out separately for those coming from Chicago and Kuala Lumpur. “There is standard guideline of SRC for the returnees coming through different modes of transport,” he added.
Sources said the people coming from Chicago and Kuala Lumpur are students, professionals, tourists and businessmen, who got stuck after the lockdown was imposed on March 24 suspending all international and domestic flights.
The airport has shut operations since national lockdown on March 24. Barring the unscheduled flights and helicopters, which are operating from here as part of relief work, cargo transporation and emergency service like carrying officials of the state government to different districts, no other flights are operating from here.
