Indian students booked on outbound Air India flights need permit from relevant Singapore agency

Mumbai: Singapore-bound Indian students on Air India repatriation flights should obtain the relevant Singapore agency’s permission before entering or returning to Singapore, clarified Singapore consulate on Saturday.
Based on information given by a highly-placed Air India official late on Thursday night, TOI had carried a report on May 8 stating that student visa holders will not be allowed entry into Singapore under the latest changes made to visa regulations.
However, the Air India official's information was inaccurate as there has been no change to Singapore visa regulations. On Friday, TOI sought a clarification from Air India and the airline said that they had acted on directions of an official from a particular ministry.
The Singapore consulate clarified: "On March 28, 2020, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore announced that from March 29, 2020, all long-term pass holders (including student pass holders) must obtain the relevant Singapore agency’s permission before entering or returning to Singapore. On March 18, 2020, the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced that from March 20, 2020, all work pass holders had to obtain MOM’s approval before commencing their journey and entering or returning to Singapore. These measures were not aimed at OCI or Indian students specifically, but work pass and long-term pass holders from all countries."
