PIB fact checks viral video claiming Air India charged passengers triple the fare; here's what it found

New Delhi: A video recently surfaced on social media claiming that passengers onboard an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi had an argument with airline staff for being charged triple the normal fare for the trip. It also claimed that these passengers were also packed in the aircraft without following the social distancing norms.

After doing a thorough fact-check of the video, Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday called the viral video fake. It also said that the Civil Aviation Ministry has claimed the incident is from a neighbouring country's airlines.

In its statement, the PIB stated, "Video on social media showing passengers on purported Air India overseas flight arguing over being charged thrice the normal fare and then packed in, without social distancing is fake, Aviation Ministry says it is from a neighbouring country's airlines."
