Air India to operate 70 additional flights to US, Canada from June 11-30: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi: Air India will operate more flights to North America this month that will allow eligible people to fly out from India apart from bringing stranded Indians back home from there.

Aviation minister H S Puri in a series of tweets on Monday said: “More flights being added to Mission Vande Bharat to enable stranded and distressed Indians to return home. AI will operate 70 flights to destinations in USA and Canada under phase 3 of the Mission from June 11-30, 2020.”

The government has been getting lot of requests for restarting schedule international flights which are for now suspended till 11.59 pm of June 30. The government will review in July when to allow the same.

Puri Tweeted on this issue on Monday. “Numerous citizens have been approaching us to restart international flights. Several factors need to be addressed. Many international destinations are not allowing incoming passenger traffic, except for their own citizens or diplomats. Within India, most international flights operate from the metros where travellers arrive from neighbouring cities and states. Our metro cities were under various degrees of lockdown which are beginning to be lifted. Some of them are still allowing only limited flights to operate.”

“MHA guidelines for lockdown 5.0 have further opened up inter and intra-state travel, will facilitate calibrated reopening of the sector. As we move towards the critical mass of 50-60% operation of domestic flights, our ability to resume international operations will also improve,” the minister tweeted.
