Mizoram's Lengpui Airport to be shut from Wednesday

Guwahati: The Lengpui Airport in Mizoram's capital city Aizawl will be closed with from 5:00 pm on June 10 till further notice, the Mizoram Government announced on Tuesday. This is in accordance with the total lockdown guidelines notified late last night by the Government. It is pertinent to mention here that the Mizoram Government has reverted to a total lockdown to contain the outbreak of Covid-19 amid a sudden spurt in the number of cases following the return of citizens who were stranded in other parts of the country amid the Government-imposed lockdown.
The Mizoram Government's move, that was announced after a consultative meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Zoramthanga, comes as other states opened malls, restaurants and places of worship after two months as part of the centre's 'Unlock-1' guidelines, expected to return life to normal in a "phased" manner.
"Consultative meeting chaired by CM decides to impose 2 weeks total lockdown of the state w.e.f 00:00 hours of 9th June 2020 in view of the prevailing situation. Lockdown Guidelines will be notified shortly," Mizoram's Directorate of Information and Public Relations tweeted. Subsequently, it was notified that the Mizoram Government has decided to extend the lockdown period from 14 to 21 days, just to stay on the safer side.
