Air India passengers on board Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) flights from India to cities in Vancouver, Toronto and Newark that were operated in the past few days are a peeved lot as many didn’t receive their check-in bags on arrival. The airline said it wasn’t able to upload a large number of check-in bags in order to keep the aircraft weight within safe limits.
Air India on Saturday tweeted that the ``bags were left behind due to payload and other operational reasons.’' A total of 243 pieces of baggage were offloaded from June 18 AI 143 (Delhi-Vancouver). The bags are being sent on AI-173 Delhi-San Francisco June 20 flight, and on June 20 and 21 Delhi-London flight AI-111, said Air India in a tweet posed on Saturday.
Total four containers of baggage offloaded from June 18 AI 187 (Delhi-Toronto), said the airline and added that the bags will be sent on its Toronto flight operated on June 20. "217 pieces of baggage offloaded from June 19, AI 191 (Mumbai -Newark) and these bags will be sent on June 20 AI-101 Delhi-New York flight," it said.
The national carrier faced flak on Twitter for its problems with check-in bags. "First hassle:trying to book ticket on VBM, second: Delhi airport staff will allow to board or not? And after all that: luggage missing. You don’t know what we going through…” said a tweet posted by @Letustravel2.
