Tamil Nadu: Despite DGCA order, airlines & travel portals refuse to give refunds

Chennai: Despite an order from DGCA, airlines and travel portals continue to refuse to give refunds for many and encourage people to travel at another time.
Though domestic carriers have announced that refunds are being given for cancelled tickets, many passengers find it difficult to get their tickets cancelled and continue to post messages on the Twitter handles of the airlines demanding refunds and not credit shell.
Since the number of flights is limited and fares are high because of lockdown, passengers are forced to pay more money as difference in fare especially if they have to take two flights to reach the destination. Those who booked via online travel portals are also in trouble as not all are able to use the refund money deposited in the credit shell to book new tickets.

This has become an inconvenience for stranded passengers as many of them have begun to cancel tickets booked in advance for travel for festivals and holidays in August and September. But they are not getting the money back.
Vinay A, who had booked a ticket to Thiruvananthapuram in April through an online travel portal, is not able to redeem the money that is in the credit shell. "The airline says I have to get it redeemed for use from the travel portal but I am not able to contact them. I wanted to use the money to book a ticket to travel in the first week of July. Now, I had to spend 2,800 to book afresh," he said.
