New Delhi: Passengers flying Vistara would now be able to book two seats so that the passenger can fly with one seat besides it empty, the airline said today. “Passengers flying with us can book two seats and fly with one seat empty. No extra will be charged for booking the one extra seat. We have informed the travel agents and the scheme will also be rolled out on our website,” said Vinod Kannan, chief commercial and strategy officer for Vistara.
This scheme will not just help airlines earn extra revenues but will also provide an opportunity to passengers, who want to fly with the adjacent seat vacant in the aircraft.
Maintaining social distancing inside the aircraft is difficult but some passengers prefer to keep the seat besides them vacant. An earlier proposal by the government to keep the middle seat vacant was not implemented after it was found that social distancing norms cannot be fulfilled even after keeping the middle seat vacant.
Vistara today also announced that a survey of its passengers show that about 65% of the respondents expected to take their next Vistara flight within the next six months, and 57% of the Club Vistara elite (Platinum and Gold tier) members said they would fly as early as in the next one month.
According to the survey, business travel emerged to be the biggest reason for them to travel, with 35% of the respondents indicating so, while 25% of the respondents expected to travel to visit friends and relatives.
The airline said that nearly 6,000 customers responded to Vistara’s survey, including Club Vistara members from all tier levels as well as non-members.
