Air India Express crash: State police launches probe

Kochi: The State police has also launched a probe into the AIE Dubai-Kozhikode Boeing 737-800 aircraft crash at Karipur International Airport on Friday night.
The Malappuram police have formed a team led by deputy superintendent of police (DySP) PC Haridas. The special investigation team will look into aspects including whether someone's negligence caused the accident, sources said.
It may be recalled that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has initiated an investigation into the mishap.
Experts have questioned why the flight was not diverted to Kochi International Airport as reportedly the pilot had landed the aircraft after a couple of attempts due to adverse weather conditions.
The aircraft touched down almost at the middle of the tabletop Runway 10 on the rainy night. On the same runway in 2017, a Spicejet aircraft had reportedly veered off to the right after touchdown but the aircraft got back on the runway, thus averting casualties.
Meanwhile, co-pilot Akhilesh Kumar's father Tulsi Ram Sharma has appealed to the Centre to provide a government job to his daughter-in-law Megha. She is pregnant and the family is anticipating her delivery in a week or two.
