Airlines lure flyers with cheap tickets

After seeing no increase in domestic travellers, airlines have started to cut fare to lure travellers.
SpiceJet has introduced discounted tickets that are priced at Rs 899 on domestic routes to boost travel. People are being encouraged to book tickets for travel anytime till March 31.
A source said usually a fare cut by an airline will trigger a general dip in fares on a particular route.
An airline official said there was good demand on certain routes from Chennai to Delhi, Madurai, Mumbai. But there are hardly any passengers for other cities.
“The offers will encourage people to book in advance for September or October and insulate themselves from hike in fare when services return to normal. The airline also will get money,” the official said.
