Sydney: A 22-year-old international student was arrested Friday in an apparent bid to leave Nova Scotia where he is facing criminal charges.
Jashandeep Singh of India was arrested Friday morning at the J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport in Reserve Mines. Cape Breton Regional Police were called to the facility with a report of a disturbance.
As a result, Singh, whose court address lists Argyle Street in Sydney, was charged with breaching an undertaking by possessing or consuming alcohol.
He had been released on a police undertaking in March after being charged with impaired driving and refusing a breathalyzer demand.
The offences are alleged to have occurred March 8 in Sydney.
The undertaking mandated that Singh not leave the jurisdiction, he attend court when ordered and he refrain from possession or consumption of alcohol.
During a provincial court appearance earlier this week, Singh entered not guilty pleas to the driving charges and was assigned a trial date of March 22.
