Airport Road is coming undone

As far as toll goes, this road in the city may be second to only NICE Road, but travelling on this road has an added price. The Devanahalli Road that connects

the city to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) road will extract every ounce of patience from the motorists with its myriad potholes.

And commuters on this road will testify that the maintenance work of this road has gone from bad to worse. BM went on a test drive and found that some areas

such as the stretch near Hunasamaranahalli flyover are particularly bad.

“The traffic on the highway increased tremendously when the airport shifted here. However, its maintenance did not catch up with its use. For the last few

months, we are seeing a number of potholes cropping up all along the highway,” said Srinivas R, who travels on this road on a daily basis to get to his godown.

Especially near the Hunasamaranahalli flyover and near the Bagalur Junction stretch, the road has almost come apart. “Numerous potholes have come up

near Hunasamaranahalli. As many take this road in the night, these bad patches can prove to be dangerous,” added Rupesh S, a cab driver.

Ramesh D, a motorist, said that he used to think the BBMP did a shoddy job of filling up potholes, but the airport road that is maintained by the National

Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is not faring any better. He said most potholes had been filled up in an unscientific manner so they were opening up again.

“The road on the other stretches may look okay, but it will wear out soon. The down ramp near Hebbal too has a few potholes,” he said.
