Trainer aircraft crashes in UP’s Azamgarh; 1 dead, another injured

Lucknow: A rookie pilot Konark Saran died and another one was injured in a trainer aircraft crash in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh at 11:20 am on Monday. Four people were on board the four-seater aircraft, two jumped out with the help of parachutes, news agency IANS said. The injured has been rushed to a hospital, locals said.

The Azamgarh Police reached the spot in Sanjaypur area on the outskirts of the Azamgarh city to take stock of the situation. The local people were the first to reach the crash site. The aircraft, used for training pilots, crashed in an agricultural field in Sarai Meer.

The aircraft belonged to the Centre-run flying-training institute Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udan Akademi (IGRUA). Amethi District Magistrate Arun Kumar said that the aircraft had taken off from the IGRUA, a pilot training institute located at Fursatganj Airfield of Amethi. 

Authorities are also going to investigate the cause of the crash. For the time being, the focus of the police remains on securing the debris of the crashed aircraft.
