Bullets found inside Coimbatore International Airport

Coimbatore: Bullets found inside a bathroom at Coimbatore International Airport, police registers case. Four live bullets and two used bullets were found inside a gents toilet near the security check area at the Coimbatore International Airport on Friday. The ammunition was handed over to the Peelamedu Police by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and a case has been registered by the police. 

According to the complaint given by SK Soni, Inspector, CISF unit, Aviation Security Group, an outsourced civil maintenance staff P Selvam, who was deployed for work in the gents toilet near the security check area, found the bullets in the commode of a western toilet on Friday at around 10.30 am. Upon discovering the bullets, Selvam informed the higher officials, and later the ammunition was handed over to the police. 

The complaint copy stated that one round of 7.62 mm bullet, two rounds of 9 mm bullet and one round of .380 mm bullet were found in the western toilet. Apart from this, reports suggested that two rounds of used assault rifle bullets were also recovered.

Police suspect that a passenger may have dumped the bullets in the toilet before undergoing a security check at the airport. A detailed enquiry is underway in connection with the recovery of the ammunition. CISF officials are also looking into the CCTV camera recordings to identify the person who may have left the ammunition inside the washroom.
