‘GMR licencing fees under dispute’

Panaji: The state government granted GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GGIAL) the construction licence for the new airport at Mopa without charging any fees, which has denied the state exchequer of nearly Rs 49 crore revenue, alleged former revenue minister Rohan Khaunte.
He also alleged that chief minister Pramod Sawant played a role in the Mopa Airport Development Authority (MADA)’s move to grant the licence.
Director for civil aviation Suresh Shanbhogue denied the charges. While admitting that GGIAL had yet to receive any construction fees, Shanbhogue said the amount is under dispute, but MADA gave the go ahead due to the importance of the project.
“The allegation of revenue loss to the government as MADA has issued construction licence without taking licence fee is incorrect as the representation of GMR on construction licence fee charged is pending before MADA for a decision,” said the state government in a statement on Thursday.
According to Shanbhogue, GGIAL asked the MADA to revise the payment.
According to the director of civil aviation, GGIAL has given an undertaking to MADA to pay the amount decided by the state.
