Ajay Jayaram not allowed to board flight, may miss Denmark Open

Hyderabad: Shuttler Ajay Jayaram's plan to participate in the Denmark Open BWF Super-750 tournament suffered a setback as he was not allowed to board the British Airways flight on Friday morning.

The other three shuttlers -- Kidambi Srikanth, Subhankar Dey and Lakshya Sen -- are on their way to Denmark as they had taken the Air France fight.

Jayaram was unaware of the mandatory rules for a person to board the British flight and also the quarantine rules that are prevalent in London, which was his transit stop.

"I am not aware of the rules. So, I went to airport and was refused to be allowed. There were some rules like the 'air bubble' type. The ticket also is refundable," said Jayaram, who is trying to contact Air France officials.

"I am trying to contact Air France. I have a valid type C visa with Covid negative certificate and invitation letter from organisers stating my cause. So far I did not get any response. I am hoping for the best," Jayaram said.

Surprisingly, neither Badminton Association of India (BAI) nor Sports Authority of India (SAI) came to the rescue of Jayaram so far. "I have tweeted and waiting for their response. But no help came from their side so far. The other shuttlers travelled via Delhi and if possible I may do the same," he said.
