Domestic air passengers welcome end to stamping

Mumbai: Domestic passengers who landed at Mumbai airport late on Wednesday evening were in for a pleasant surprise with no quarantine stamping of hands on arrival.

In a major boost to domestic air travel, the Maharashtra state government on Wednesday suspended quarantine measures in place for arriving domestic passengers from the time domestic air travel began in May.

The domestic passengers will be checked for Covid-19 symptoms, stated the state's Unlock order. A symptom-free passenger can leave the airport without the indelible quarantine stamp on a hand. "We received the order around 5.30pm and immediately implemented it for domestic passengers," said a Mumbai International Airport Ltd spokesperson.

For international passengers, the older norms remain. Under the central government norms issued in August, an international passenger who has undergone an RT-PCR test less than 96 hours before departure to India and received a Covid-negative test report can skip the quarantine entirely on arrival. Those who couldn't undergo the test can take it on arrival at the airport, await the results in a cordoned-off zone of the airport, and then bypass quarantine, if they test negative.
