MPDA files plea in SC over bldgs near airport

Panaji: Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order passed in February by the high court of Bombay at Goa directing action against unauthorised buildings around the Goa international airport.

The appeal, which is listed for October 28, is likely to be heard by Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde, Justice A S Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian. MPDA appeal was accepted on October 10.

The authority has sought interim relief from the high court judgement which ordered the Indian Navy and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to initiate action against unauthorized constructions around the airport within nine months.

“MPDA is complying with the Colour-Coded Zoning Map (CCZM), but we are asking for relief for approvals granted before the CCZM was implemented,” said an MPDA official.

MPDA chairman Clafasio Dias confirmed that the planning body has challenged the HC’s order. “The hearing will most likely to be held on October 28,” said Dias.

The Goa government, Airport Authority of India – Goa director, Flag Officer Commanding Goa Naval Area, Chicalim village panchayat and Venture Building Dreams have been named as respondents in the case.
