Proposed Chiethu airport gets AAI to prepare DPR

Kohima: Airport Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly agreed to engage experts to prepare detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Chiethu airport since it has received only one bidder for project consultancy.

Transport secretary, A. Robin Lotha told this to Nagaland Post when asked about the status of the airport. He pointed out that as AAI had received only one bidder and, as per rules, it was not supposed to open the tender when there was only one bidder.

Therefore, he said the transport department had written letter to AAI on August 5 to take up the matter and push for consultancy which can prepare DPR. He added that AAI has agreed to engage experts to prepare the detailed project report.

In addition to previous purchase of land for the airport, Robin said 368.2 acre was procured and now altogether 1013.4 acres of land had been bought for setting up the airport.

It may be recalled that during the Assembly session in February, transport and civil aviation minister P Paiwang Konyak informed the House that setting up of airport at Chiethu in Kohima district was in line with the national policy of having airports in all State Capitals.
