Core group of Secy’s to meet on disinvestment of Air India

The govt may ease some of the conditions for potential bidders of Air India in its renewed effort to privatize the National carrier. Sources tell ET NOW that the Core group of secretaries on disinvestment will be meeting tomorrow at 5pm to review the stake sale. Well, Minister has on record mentioned that either Air India has to be privatized or govt will have to shut it down.

Sources hint that Govt may further sweeten the AI offer. Group of secretaries tomorrow will discuss on likely further reducing AI's debt. Debt currently stands at about 23,000 cr. This is the second attempt to sell the carrier. Tomorrow's meeting will set the basis for decision that shall be taken by inter-ministerial panel led by Amit shah before Oct 30th. What we are also picking up is that there could be likely extension of the Oct 30th deadline due to these emergency meetings that shall likely modify certain terms of the deal.
