Methaqualone worth Rs 1 crore found in leather bag consigned to Nigerian caught with ecstasy

Bengaluru: Customs department deployed at Bengaluru airport seized at least 400 gm of 'Methaqualone' concealed in a leather bag on Wednesday. The banned substance was discovered by customs officials deployed at the Courier Centre of the Kempegowda International Airport.

It has also come to light that the leather bag in question was consigned to a Nigerian national, who was nabbed at the same Customs Courier Centre earlier this month. He was arrested with nearly 2 kg of Ecstasy pills worth Rs 1 crore on September 10.

According to a report by the Indian Express, the leather bag seized on Wednesday was shipped to the cargo division of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru along with a few clothes. It was only upon inspection that officials found 400 gms of Methaqualone worth approximately Rs 20 lakh in the international market.

In February of this year, officials posted at the Courier Intelligence Unit of Air Customs had seized a considerable quantity of the same banned drug. Recovered from a courier warehouse in Chennai, the consignment comprised about 6.8 kg of Methaqualone worth approximately Rs 3.4 crore.
