Flyer count at Indore airport dips by 84% in August

Indore: Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport has witnessed nearly 84 per cent decline in passenger footfall in August this year as compared to the last year’s figure.

Official figures show a gradual increase in passengers movement to and from Indore post lockdown, but passenger footfall in August seems to be way less than what it was last year.

As per official data released by Airport Authority of India (AAI), about 37,020 passengers travelled to and from Indore in August as against movement of 2.29 lakh passengers travelling to and from Indore in the same month last year. Similarly, around 85,011 passengers travelled to and from Indore between April 1 and August 31, 2020 as against 11.75 lakh people flying in and out of Indore during the same period last year.

Airport officials said that despite having less number of flights, monthly passenger footfall at Indore airport is more than what other AAI airports such as Surat, Madurai, Goa, and Trichy where passengers movement in August has been recorded to be maximum of 35000. Even Bhopal airport has witnessed movement of around 20428 passengers during the same period, they pointed out.
