A release from the Commissioner of Customs said based on
intelligence that gold was likely to be smuggled from Dubai
two cases smuggling were detected.
In the first case, a passenger Syed Mohamed Buhari (51)
of Sivaganga, who arrived from Dubai by Fly Dubai Flight
was intercepted and on persistent questioning confessed
to carrying gold paste in rectum.
On personal search two gold paste bundles were recovered
from rectum. Total 484 gms of gold valued at Rs 25.5 lakh
was recovered after extraction and the same was seized.
The passenger has been been arrested.
In the second case, one Syed Ali (39) of Ramanathapuram
who arrived from Dubai by an Air India Express Flight was
intercepted and on persistent questioning confessed to
concealing gold paste bundles in rectum.
On personal search four bundles were recovered from the
rectum and after extraction 358 gms gold valued at Rs 18.9
lakh was recovered.
In all 842 gms gold of 24 K purity worth Rs 44.4 lakh was
recovered and seized under the Customs Act 1962.
Further investigation is under progress.
