Insurance agency pays interim compensation for aircraft, Kozhikode plane crash victims, says Air India CMD

New Delhi: The families of all those killed and injured in the Kozhikode plane crash have been paid interim compensation by the insurance agency, Air India CMD Rajiv Bansal said on Thursday.

On August 7, an Air India Express flight from Dubai with 190 people overshot the tabletop runway during landing at the Kozhikode airport in heavy rain and fell into a valley 35 feet below and broke into pieces, killing 21 people, including the pilots.

Bansal also said that the Air India has also received the first tranche of interim compensation for the aircraft damaged in the crash.

"Insurance agency has paid all the injured and families of the deceased. They have already been paid interim compensation. We've also received first the tranche of interim compensation for aircraft that we lost," news agency ANI quoted the Air India CMD as saying.

He further stated that 21 passengers, including the two pilots, had lost their lives in the plane crash. "Almost everybody discharged from hospital, two people are still receiving some treatment; one person undergoing physiotherapy and another undergoing plastic surgery," he added.
