Thiruvananthapuram: The wife of one of the accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case has named MLA Karat Razack in her statement. The matter is being probed by the National Investigative Agency (NIA).
In her statement to the Customs, the wife of accused Sandeep Nair has made references to MLA Karat Razack. She has also mentioned a businessman by the name of Karat Faizal in her statement in connection with the Kerala gold smuggling case.
The statement she gave to Customs suggests that Soumya knew about the gold smuggling gangs operating out of Kozhikode. She has also made references about how gold was retrieved from concealed devices at the home of her husband, Kerala gold smuggling case accused Sandeep Nair.
The statement where she mentions MLA Karat Razack was given to Customs on July 8 of this year.
Razack, who won the assembly seat from Koduvally in Kerala's Kozhikode, had contested as an Independent in 2016. Responding to his name emerging in the Kerala gold smuggling case, MLA Karat Razack has alleged that this is part of an attempt to falsely implicate him.
In addition, Karat Razack has also claimed that there has not been any mention of him in official documents compiled by Customs even three months after the statement of accused Sandeep Nair's wife was recorded.
