‘AAI ready for cargo ops, but need details’

Panaji: Goa International Airport, Dabolim, has begun round-the-clock cargo operations as against the earlier norm of handling cargo in two shifts during the day, said Goa airport director Gagan Malik. He also said that in order to increase freight movement, particularly for import and export, a detailed study by all stakeholders on the demand and infrastructure requirements needs to be prepared.

Since March, CONCOR has stopped handling cargo operations and the responsibility for import and export of cargo through Goa airport is being handled by the Airports Authority of India’s subsidiary, AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company (AAICLAS).

Goa airport has also been registered on IceGate, the air cargo portal of the central excise customs department.

AAI data shows that the quantum of cargo movement through Goa airport has increased, with 337 metric tonne transported in September as against 15 metric tonne of freight in May.
