Use 65 acres of Mumbai airport land for rehabilitation: BJP

BJP said the state must ask Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which operates the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, to handover 65 acres for in-situ rehabilitation of airport slumdwellers.

MIAL is a joint venture between Airports Authority of India and GVK Pvt Ltd. BJP MLA from Vile Parle, Parag Alavani, said that the Centre has already given an in-principle approval for the land to be handed over to the state.

He said this had been approved during the tenure of the Devendra Fadnavis government, who had promised in-situ rehabilitation for airport slumdwellers. At present, 276 acres of 1,875 acres of airport land are occupied by over 80,000 slum families.
