Covid cloud hits Bhopal airport; rebates to keep business afloat

Bhopal: With the Covid cloud hitting the aviation, the airport authority is taking several initiatives to help retail businesses and travel at the Raja Bhoj airport.

In last few years, a lot of private retail shops were opened at the city airport. In fact, Bhopal airport was selected among the 12 airports for master concessionaire scheme two years ago.

These were Bhopal, Indore, Raipur, Lucknow, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Amritsar, Bhubaneshwar, Srinagar, Guwahati and Goa. Under the scheme, companies, for using space at the airport, had to pay (Airport Authority of India) AAI a concession fee equivalent to the quoted monthly amount over and above the minimum monthly guarantee (MMG) with annual escalation or particular per cent of fixed revenue share of the monthly net sales.

After Covid-19 hit, several retail companies have either surrendered their licenses or refused to continue.

When contacted, director Anil Vikram said, “AAI waivedoff fee of all the commercial licences from during the duration of ‘No Passenger Movement”. Moreover, a huge rebate was given based on reduction of passenger movement post lockdown to all the licensee in the coming months.”
