Mumbai: In the past two months, over 8000 passengers underwent RT-PCR test at the Mumbai airport on arrival out of which about 100 tested positive for Covid, said Mumbai International Airport ltd (MIAL) on Tuesday. That is, one in eighty passengers who took the test after landing into Mumbai was Covid positive.
But not all arriving passengers need to undergo these tests at the Mumbai airport. Under the ministry of civil aviation norms, a negative Covid test report is needed to skip quarantine. Passengers can either get it done before departure or alternatively undergo the test on arrival at Mumbai. Of the 8000 passengers who took the test, about 6910 were male and the rest, 1090 female. The passengers who tested positive were transferred by the state authorities to Covid institutions, said MIAL.
The test costs about Rs. 3900 per person and an eight hour wait for the results. Currently, these test facilities are available at both departures and arrivals at the airport. ``While awaiting their test reports, passengers can unwind in an exclusive space, have access to free wifi, unlimited delicacies from a specially crafted menu, hot/cold beverages on request,’’ said MIAL. The RT-PCR test facility at the airport was launched on September 6, as per the directive issued by the ministry of civil aviation.
