The Modi government is trying to incentivize airport privatization with a new scheme. According to the sources, the PMO and Aviation Ministry have chaired meetings on the same. PMO and the Aviation Ministry have initiated conversations last week, regarding a new scheme of privatization of airports.
Airport privatization has been on the top of the agenda list of the Modi government, and the government aims to privatize 35 of them by 2024. The government is looking at clubbing loss-making airports with profitable airports. The reason is not just to uptick the regional infrastructure but also to do away with the loss-making assets, which have been with the Airport Authority of India.
