Hyderabad Airport gets closer to pre COVID-19 days, handles 3 million passengers in 6 months

Hyderabad: Showing signs of returning to pre-Covid-19 situation, the Hyderabad international airport has handled three million passengers till November 30, since the recommencement of the air traffic in May after the lockdown restrictions were relaxed.

The number of passengers handled in one day touched 37,000 mark from a 3,000 average number of passengers handled in the initial days.

Over 35,000 domestic flights were handled from recommencement till 23rd November, with a single day's highest being 284.

Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai are the destinations which saw huge traffic during the period. Hyderabad reconnected with 51 out of 55 old destinations and added three new ones -- Kozhikode, Imphal and Jagdalpur

According to a spokesperson of the airport, the relaxation of quarantine norms by both the Central and state governments under the Unlock 5.0 has helped the aviation sector in gaining strength steadily. The guidelines on the medical profile of the passengers and RT-PCR medical report are still the ask by many states but, the newly introduced on-site Covid-19 testing facility at the GMR Hyderabad International Airport made it easy for the passengers.

Hyderabad has also seen uptick in the Air Traffic Movement (ATM) from about 40 daily ATMs in the first few weeks of the restart, to over six times growth having handled over 260 domestic flights daily in November.
