May consider suspending flights to other countries too if new Covid strain spreads: Hardeep Puri

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the government may take a similar action with other countries too if the new coronavirus strain is seen to be spreading.

"Other European countries like Germany, Belgium, and France have suspended air travel with the UK. If we receive any information regarding spread new virus strain in other places, we'll consider suspending air travel with other countries too," said Puri.

This comes soon after India temporarily suspended lights between the UK and India.

Amid fears of a new and highly infectious coronavirus strain in the UK, Indian government temporarily suspended all flights to the UK till December 31.

"We have decided to take all necessary precautions as a result of the situation arising out of the spread of a new strain of coronavirus in some countries. All flights originating from the UK into India will be suspended temporarily from 22 Dec to 31 Dec 2020," Civial Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted.
