Jaipur: Three persons were detained at the Jaipur International Airport on Friday with over 700gm of gold valued at approximately Rs 36 lakh.
This year the customs department apprehended at least 30 people and seized around 40kg of gold.
“A passenger arriving by Air India flight from Dubai was intercepted by the Customs on suspicious behaviour. Gold worth Rs 15.5 lakh was recovered from him while two more persons were detained as well and gold valued at Rs 20.5 lakh was seized from individuals,” said an official.
According to officials, total gold recovered was 702gms and further investigation is under way in the matter. The gold was being smuggled in wire form.
