DRI busts courier, seizes heroin worth Rs 3 crore concealed in wigs addressed to Navi Mumbai

Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Friday seized 1.07 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 3 crores which had been smuggled into India through courier. A courier was supposed to deliver the contraband to an address in Navi Mumbai, sources told India Today.

Officials found the heroin concealed in a wig (artificial hair) consignment. Upon examination of small packets containing brown substance concealed in the wig consignment, officials recovered the heroin worth over Rs 3 crore.

Over the past few months, the DRI has intensified operations by intercepting more and more drugs smuggled into the country. A majority of these operations are being carried out by the C-Cell of the Mumbai DRI.

The most recent one is said to be the fifth seizure of drugs in three weeks at the Mumbai International Airport. In the past three weeks, sleuths have recovered more than 4.5 kilograms of cocaine worth over Rs 27 crores.
