In a written reply in response to a questioned
tabled by Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, the
Chief Minister, who also holds civil aviation
portfolio, said as on date 26 Goans have been
recruited directly under GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) while number of
Goans presently working at construction site of Mopa Airport is 479.
'Clause 5.9 of the Concession Agreement envisages obligations relating to employment of people
of Goa and displaced family. More than 1500 jobs are expected to be available once the airport
becomes operational. Government has already approved setting up Aviation Skill Development
Centre by GMR at the airport site to impart skills/training to Goan unemployed youth to become
eligible for such jobs,' he said.
'Mopa Airport construction work is in progress and first phase is expected to be commissioned
in the year 2022,' he said.
