Andhra Pradesh gets 4.7 lakh Covishield vials for 1st phase vaccination

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh received 4.77 lakh Covishield doses, the Serum Institute of India's Covid-19 vaccine, on Tuesday. The first consignment of Covishield vials arrived in a special cargo flight at Vijayawada airport, from where the vials were shifted to the state vaccine store located about two kilometres away amid high security.

The Union government has allocated a total of 4.97 lakh doses to Andhra Pradesh. The 20,000 doses of Covaxin, jointly developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology, will arrive on Wednesday. The 4.97 lakh doses would be sufficient to administer the vaccine to 3.88 lakh health care workers in the first phase of vaccination, which is scheduled to start on January 16.
