Mumbai airport gears up for Covid-19 vaccine arrival

Mumbai: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai is all geared up for Covid-19 vaccine arrival. Per month cold storage capacity of 30,000 tons, dedicated Covid-19 task force and transportation facility -- these are some of the facilities being provided by the Mumbai airport.

With Covid-19 vaccine rollout expected soon, airports across the country will have a critical task at hand.

Officials at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said that all the preparations are in place for all the important tasks.

Speaking to India Today TV, an official said that the airport authorities are all ready to face any challenge ahead. "We are just waiting for the roll-out and go-ahead from the government," he said.

The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) plans to deploy a dedicated Covid-task force at the airport. This is to facilitate planning and collaboration between the airport and all stakeholders in this process such as the airline customers, supply chain partners, regulatory and governmental bodies, vaccine distributors amongst others.

The task force will extend all efforts to optimise temperature management, reduce dwell time with prior special approvals from regulators and lower processing time to ensure an unbroken cold chain for the vaccine movement from the manufacturing facility to the end distributor.

Around the clock, Customer Service Cell will be dedicated for Covid-19 vaccine EXIM consignments to address customer queries, pre-alerts and status updates.

There's also flexible slot management for ad-hoc charter operations.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will also work towards providing green channel facility with dedicated truck docks, X-Ray machine and ULD Buildup workstation, as well as deploying Key Account Managers for continuous monitoring of Vaccine operations.

CSMIA will offer ‘Cooltainer’ facility that facilitates temperature-controlled transport between the cold storage terminal and the aircraft.
