Air Customs officials seize gold worth Rs 1.10 crore from 3 passengers at Kannur Intl Airport

Kannur: Air Customs sleuths on Tuesday seized 2,389 grams of gold valued around Rs 1.10 crore from three passengers who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Dubai and Bahrain in two separate flights of Air India Express. 
 Customs Assistant Commissioner E Vikas-led team detained Mohammed Asharaf of Uppala in Kasaragod district, Rasheed of Kakkattil in Kozhikode district and Bashir Abbas of Koothuparamba in Kannur district with the smuggled gold. 
 Customs sources said they seized 591 grams of gold valued Rs 29,78,640 from Mohammed Asharaf, 983 grams of gold valued Rs 49,54,320 from Rasheed and 815 grams of gold valued Rs 41,07,600 from Bashir Abbas. 
 Based on tip-off, two passengers arrived from Dubai were intercepted and recovered gold totalling 1,798 grams, including 3 crude gold chains and gold wires concealed inside the metal straps of their trolly bags. While, 591 grams of gold in capsule form was concealed in the under wear of Mohammed Asharaf, sources added.
