Itanagar: The Chakma Displaced Family Justice Demand Committee (CDFJDC) has sought a CBI probe into anomalies in distribution of money meant for those, who were displaced due to the construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the CDFJDC, 156 Chakma families were displaced from Hollongi to pave way for the construction of the Greenfield Airport.
The CDFJDC, which was formed to seek justice for the deprived Chakma families who were settled at Hollongi-Kokila by the Indian government after their ancestors fled to India in 1964 due to religious persecution from erstwhile East Pakistan.
The committee said the Greenfield Airport at Hollongi turned “disastrous” for the Chakma people at Hollongi-Kokila area as their lands were acquired by the government.
CDFJDC alleged that the displaced families have not received the funds released by the government as compensation.
The CDFJDC has alleged that the Chakma Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee (R&R Committee) formed at the advice of Papum Pare deputy commissioner, has embezzled over Rs. 19 crore released by the government.
As advised by Papum Pare deputy commissioner Pige Ligu, a 10-member Chakma R&R Committee was formed with Bijoy Ranjan Chakma as the president, Sambasur Chakma as secretary and Dharmo Chakma as treasurer with Sadhan Kusum Chakma as de facto advisor.
The Chakma R&R Committee has Lalit Kumar Chakma, Bilash Chandra Chakma, Bodhisatta Talukdar, Bipin Chakma, Nefarani Chakma, SumotiRanjan Chakma and Premnath Chakma as executive members.
But the government is yet to fulfil the promises of “land for land, compensation against cropped areas, dwelling houses with drinking water supply, school, health centre, market haat and recreation centre” as per the negotiated assessment carried out by it, the CDFJDC said.
