Madurai: Tension prevailed at Madurai airport on Thursday afternoon when of a ‘bomb-like substance’ was found in a parcel. A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad team checked the parcel and found a packet of aloe vera powder, a wrist watch and a charger, to the relief of everybody.
Madurai airport director S Senthil Valavan said Air India employees had checked the parcel sent to Chennai through India Post by a person in Kanyakumari district. They found a wire and powder and hence alerted the airport officials, who in turn informed the Madurai district police.
A BDDS team rushed to the airport. Madurai range deputy inspector general of police S Rajendran and Madurai district superintendent of police Sujit Kumar also reached the spot.
Airport officials switched off scanners and other equipment and evacuated the cargo section, which is located next to the airport director's office building.
